I enjoy working with people who have a spiritual world view. Over my years as a ecopsychologist simple principles have become apparent. For example:

  • The qualities we need to resolve our particular psychological difficulty are nearly always the qualities that we need to pursue our goals and direction in life. It is as if we are being presented with the learning opportunities we need for our growth and development to fulfil our purpose. If we do not learn from these experiences they usually are repeated and intensified until we do. With this additional learning we can then move on to new experiences in our life that contribute to our learning and accomplishment.
  • At a fundamental level how well we do in the world is determined by how well we process and integrate life experience. After all, this is what drives our learning, growth, and development.

My therapeutic approach is to attend to the processes within the individual to optimize their learning experience and to enhance outcomes that are important to them. By including the spiritual in this work you gain access to tremendous resources and consciousness that informs process.  I like to keep the therapeutic process simple as I do in all of my work. Rarely is it complicated, and rarely is there a need to rehash or re-experience the trauma of the past.

I often describe this in the following way. “As a spiritual being we are embodied in a human condition for a sensory and creative experience of the world. The human condition comes with a genetic, cultural, and social inheritance that we must deal with during our life journey. In addition to this the human condition is incredibly absorbing. Most people who are experiencing difficulty are absorbed into things such as depression, anxiety, ego/personality, thoughts, fantasy, food, drugs, alcohol, powerful emotions, money, power, and the list goes on. The more absorbed people become the less awareness they have of spiritual energy and resources, and the more their worldview/awareness becomes restricted. The way out of this is simply to release our grasp, or engagement, with these dynamics and to again look towards what is positive and the spiritual. Once we do this we begin to unhook and the spiritual begins to reveal itself. As the new awareness develops we become better equipped at life and how to function in the world” In essence this is the therapeutic journey. To understand the processes at work and learning simple skills enables an efficiency in the unhooking and learning process that is not otherwise available.

Transformational Seminars

By | The Work That I Do

I hold seminars and provide public speaking for people who seek more information about, or are looking for a conceptual entry point into process and transformational understanding. I draw on my knowledge of the following areas: The current scientific/industrialised world view and how it constrains natural self organising and transformational processes; How to release these constraints; The new emerging process world view that offers sustainable solutions for self and community; And how to allow transition into the new and associated transformations of consciousness to effortlessly occur. Attending these seminars will enable a much deeper engagement with other workshops and nature immersion events I offer.

Where are we? How did we get here? And what do we do now?

I enjoy public speaking and sharing the information and knowledge I have gained through exploration and experience (see The Nature Code for more info).

Seminars are a wonderful opportunity to explore our ancestral and current collective journey. A journey which appears to be culminating in a social and environmental precipice of substantial magnitude. How did we end up with such a traumatised and destructive global culture that threatens our very existence, along with that of many other life forms and the health of the planet? Is this an aberration or part of our evolutionary journey of consciousness? What can we learn from this and in what way does it inform us about future action? Does our present circumstances allow for transformational outcomes and an expanded world view that includes sustainability and increasing peacefulness.

Every journey has a beginning and that starts from where we are in the moment we make the decision to undertake it. We are all born into an age where the rational conscious mind and classical science has reigned supreme. Whether we like it or not our minds, consciousness, and view of reality are highly conditioned by many generations of mechanistic, manipulative, and exploitative thought: A world view that has a central thesis of ‘command and control’ with intellect and the creative ability of humankind superior to all else.

The extreme constraints and disconnect of this mindset must be released so the new paradigms of understanding and consciousness can be understood. This involves consideration of the planet and universe as being conscious and our interactive interrelationships with them and each other. The language of Mother Earth and nature is a felt energetic language involving deeper consciousness rather than an intellectual spoken language. Connection is via heart consciousness and we must show up the right way with aligned intent and attitude.  In showing up the right way powerful knowledge, wisdom, and consciousness becomes available that activates our individual and collective transformation for sustainability. We do not need to engineer this and it is not complicated. Our bodies come from the earth and the transformational blueprint is within us.

The self organising and transformational processes within Mother Earth and us, once understood and experienced, provide potential for therapy, organisations, business, social change, and governance. Exploration of process and culture reveals many indigenous cultures and ancient wisdom traditions have carried this knowledge across the ages, including periods of oppression and persecution, and are now making transformational wisdom available to us. It is my understanding the solutions for a sustainable and peaceful future will emerge from the integration of new knowledge with the ancient wisdom held by the indigenous peoples of the world.

In these seminars my aim is to walk fellow travellers out of the mechanistic and classical psychological landscape we currently inhabit so we can expand our view of the emerging conceptual territories that lie beyond, and begin our own process of re-connection and transformational activation for a sustainable future. Nature Immersion

By | The Work That I Do

I accompany people into healthy wilderness and guide them through a process of deep spiritual connection for meaningful relationship and re-enchantment of life. Many benefits emerge including healing opportunity, access to information, release of wisdom, and discovery of the spiritual medicine of individual nature elements and landscape.  The aim is to respect, connect, process, and step into our roles of co-creators with Mother Earth, and each other, for a sustainable and peaceful future.

Some years ago walking by myself in the mountains in the USA, I reached the summit of Mount San Bernardino. Whilst I had walked through snow to reach the top, the top itself was relatively free of snow, the sun was shining, there was no wind, and I was comfortable.  I laid on the ground for rest and to use my knowledge for connection with the mountain and Mother Earth. I soon drifted into a trance like state. Mountain spirit came to me and then introduced bear spirit and a large cat spirit. All three had spiritual medicine available that was most useful for an important international conference I was to present at in a few days time. I requested support and for them to be present. My presentation on self organising systems and nature connection went well with coherent information flowing freely. I was aware of the spirit presence for myself and attendees to assist the process of integrating new understanding.

When we have experiences like these in nature there is a choice we can make. We can see it as illusion and dismiss it completely. We can see it as our own consciousness creating metaphor representing dynamics within us that we can interpret accordingly. Or we can accept the presence of spirit within all things. Many years prior to this I made a decision to choose the latter with these experiences and have done so ever since.  The reason for this is that it re-enchants my life, fills it with meaningful relationship when in nature, and gives me access to important information, resources, and guidance.

The nature immersion events I hold are designed to assist people to step out of condition ways of thinking and make connections such as these with Mother Earth, landscape features, and our extended nature family. There is a simple process I follow:

Showing up in nature the right way: It is important to be clear on spiritual and life intent and to make sure this aligns with Mother Earth. It is also important to recognise our bodies come from Mother Earth and we inhabit them as spiritual beings for a sensory and creative learning experience via interacting with the natural world and each other. In this recognition comes a gratitude and wonderment for the opportunity that have been made available to us.

Heart Centeredness: The language of nature is not an intellectual language but a felt language of consciousness, and the entry is via the gateway of the heart rather than the intellectual mind. I assist with releasing the conditioned mind and stepping into spiritual heart space for connection. With this connection comes an activation of purification, healing, and transformational processes.

Clarity of Intent: The next overlapping stage of exploration in nature immersion is to realise and bring forward clear spiritual and personal intent that is aligned with Mother Earth, and request the appropriate release of knowledge, consciousness, and resources for fulfilment. In showing up in nature the right way and following simple but important processes a great deal is revealed and access to immense wisdom and resources becomes available.

Connection and Immersion: In introducing people to these experiences I draw on my own nature immersion experiences, the knowledge revealed to me during these experiences, the teaching I have received from indigenous and non-indigenous elders, my experience as a transformational ecopsychologist, and the new process sciences that are rapidly expanding our worldview to validate and include conscious interconnection with all things. This is a simple process of allowing via easy process strategies rather than something we need to engineer to make happen.

Integration of understanding: With an experiential journey such as this it is important to integrate the understandings and insights so they remain active within our consciousness and perpetuate ongoing transformational development. Simple process strategies facilitate this at the deepest levels.

My motivation in doing this work is simple. If we are to have a sustainable and peaceful future we must reconnect with the ground of consciousness that our bodies and intellectual mind have emerged from. Then we are able to explore and understand the powerful creative processes at work and learn to collaborate with them. In so doing we can step into our roles as co-creators with Mother Earth and each other.
